How should I choose the material of the connector?

Connector, refers to the electronic power signal tone its connection bridge function of the component, simply put, all the electronic signal and power connection components and their accessories are called connectors. The structure of the connector is varied, and there are various connectors in different ways with different application goals, power, frequency and application environment. As a hub of connection, to ensure the successful connection and stable flow of current, the quality of the connector directly determines the safety, practicality and service life of the machine. So, how should the material of the connector be selected?

First of all, we must understand the quality of the connector must highlight two aspects, one is to look at the mechanical properties of the connector, the so-called connection mainly refers to whether the insertion force and pull-out force of the parts meet the standard, the insertion force is too high, the insertion is difficult, not only inconvenient, but also for a long time will bring safety risks to the entire machinery. For the pull-out force, try to be as large as possible, if the pull-out force is too small, it is easy to fall off, which will affect the service life of the connector and will also cause certain safety risks to the machinery.

The second aspect is that for some connectors that work on special occasions, we must pay attention to their environmental performance, that is, to maintain normal operation when encountering some harsh environments. Therefore, the connector must be resistant to high and low temperatures, and its components must not be damaged due to high temperature; Must be able to work in high humidity, as humidity can affect the insulation properties of the connector; It must have the ability to resist shock, extrusion and even vibration so as not to damage and affect mechanical work due to huge impacts.

At present, PPE, PPS, PET, PA, PBT, etc. are several commonly used materials for connectors, and the following are several schemes of connector materials for your reference.

1. Reinforced grade PPE flame retardant material

Features: halogen-free, high flow, dimensional stability.

Application: Relay box. Connector. Coil wound spool. Switching relays. Integrated circuit board bracket.

2. Glass fiber reinforced grade PPS material

Features: high rigidity, high impact resistance, high heat resistance, high mechanical properties, high CTI.

Application: Motor connector. Switch. DVD laser head. Coil skeleton.

Halogen-free PPS material

Features: halogen-free, excellent mechanical properties, good dimensional stability.

Application: Connector. Coil skeleton.

3. Reinforced PET flame retardant material

Features: excellent flame retardancy (halogen & halogen-free), high RTI, easy to color.

Application: transformer skeleton. Connector. Switches and other electronic and electrical components.

4. Flame retardant PA material

Features: UL94-V0, high electrical insulation.

Application: Plug. Connector. Terminal. Motor. Capacitor switch. short-circuit switches, etc.

5. Flame retardant PBT material

Features: glass fiber reinforced, flame retardant V0, GWIT: 750°C, GWFI: 960°C.

Applications: connectors, cooling fans, sockets, TV parts, coil shafts, switches, etc.
